May 19, 2015 Recap before the trip begins-Visits with friends and family, TN Bourbon Trail, Pigeon Forge

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

Well we have reached Nashville to start our adventure. For the last 9 weeks we have spent time visiting family and friends. I started off visiting family and friends in Massachusetts and New York a couple of weeks before Mike retired. After his retirement we headed out visiting folks in NC, SC, FL, GA and TN. It was a trip of mixed feelings. We were happy to see everyone but sad that we would not see them again for awhile (18+ months).

After we visited everyone we headed to Moscow, IA to have one of our slides repaired. As always HWH was on top of things. Our appointment was not until Tuesday at 7am but we arrived at noon on Monday and they took us right in and had us on our way by 2pm. We had extra time now so we decided to hit the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky. Wow does Mike like Bourbon and I found one that I liked. After Kentucky we went to Pigeon Forge, TN for a few days waiting for our westward travels to start. While in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg we visited some of the Moonshine distilleries. Man does Mike like Moonshine. He is stocking up for the long trip ahead.

Below are some of the photos from this portion of our trip..

We were supposed to meet our traveling partners (Jeff and Amy Bohrer) Monday the 18th but they were delayed with some mechanical issues but just for a day.  We also had an issue.  One of the locks on our Blue Ox broke so I had to drive from Pigeon Forge to Nashville following behind the motorhome for about 4 hours.

Mike and I went roaming around Nashville before the Bohrer’s  arrival here tonight.  We are staying at a wonderful campground.  It is an Army Corps of Engineer park.  The sites are big and spacious.  Water, electric s and  a dump station.  It is Seven Points Campground in Hermitage, TN and it is really expensive at $20 a night. Haha.
