Thursday, July 7, 2016 Plane trip and boat ride to Wolverine
Creek
Well the sun is shining and there are some blue skies. It looks like we are going to have a good
day. The van picked us up at 11 am and
we were on the sea plane before noon.
This is the first time both of us have ridden in one of these
planes. It was the softest take off and
landing ever. We arrived on a batch of
grass to pick up our boat and guide. As
soon as we got to Wolverine Creek we were greeted by a momma bear and her 3
cubs. She tested the water but didn’t
seem that interested in the fish or it was just too busy with people for
her. Not 30 minutes later here comes a
young male maybe 3 years old. He would
see the pool of salmon and jump in the middle or run through them. Somehow everyone managed to catch some fish,
but this guy just hung around. He tried
to eat a baby duck. Finally he managed
to trap a fish and took it off into the woods but not for long and he was back
but by this time we had 8 salmon in our cooler and we had to give up our place
at the head of the line for others to have their chance. In this little inlet we saw a seal trying to
get his share, momma duck and her babies and a couple of eagles. We finally left and went to see a waterfall. We had to meet the plane at 6 so we cleaned
the fish and fed the eagles, ravens and seagulls. When we got to the plane we were informed
that we were going to take a little detour to a lake to pick up some other
people. Okay with us. We got to fly over
some snow capped mountains. After we
picked our passengers up we then went back up into the mountains where we saw
an active volcano blowing off steam (Mt Redoubt)and flew over a glacier (Double
Glacier). WOW this had turned out to be a
very enjoyable day. We ended up with 10
pounds of salmon in the freezer. The
salmon was delicious!! The best!!!!
