October 18, 2014 West Side of Seneca Lake- NY wineries

We had breakfast on our own this morning and decided that we were going to go out for a while to revisit some places that we really enjoyed the last time we were here 3 years ago on the west side of Seneca Lake. First stop was Miles Wine Cellars- if you like port this is the place for you. Second stop Earle Estates Winery & Meadery- the meadery has a good variety of wines made with honey and some nice ciders. Next stop was Belkhurst Estate Winery which is at the top of the lake. We decided to head back the same way and make one last stop at Castel Grisch, our favorite so far. We purchased some excellent ice wine and also had a wonderful German lunch.

Back at camp each of us decided to do some chores and to take naps. We had a very nice dinner of smoked chicken and fresh green beans, We do like our green beans. We are going to retire early as we are leaving fairly early tomorrow to visit Boldt castle in Alexandria Bay, NY which is about 3.5 hrs ride from Watkins Glen. Tomorrow the weather forecast is either rain or a winter mix...ugh but it is the last day of the season for touring the castle.

October 17, 2014 Watkins Glen State Park & Gorge

Pat's sister Dawn and her husband Carl surprised us at 7 am this morning. They drove part of the way last night from Hew Hampshire after working all day. Dawn couldn't sleep so they left at 5 am this morning to get to us earlier.

Breakfast consisted of pancakes, eggs and sausage for all. Then off we went to visit the Watkins Glen State Park to hike the gorge. We climbed the 800 steps and 1.5 mile trail in about 3 hours. The weather was sunny and cool. We took our time and really enjoyed the Gorge this time seeing some things that we didn't noticed that last time we were here. There were waterfalls, pools and bridges. Below are just a few pictures out of 100s. Dawn also found some little friends along the way. After the hike we were starving so we brought out some meat and cheese that was going to hold us to dinner.

Dinner was fantastic. Dawn made fresh green beans and steelhead trout. We sat around the fire had a few mixed drinks and finally called it a night. We agreed that tomorrow was going to be a rest day depending how we felt. If we decide to go somewhere we will leave at 10 am.

October 16, 2014 Traveling through WV, MD, PA, NY

We left on time. Headed first to get some fuel and away we went. Rain had moved out of our way and it looks like we are going to have a good day driving. We have another 290 miles or so to go today which is an easy drive for Michael. We traveled through West Virginia and Maryland in a blink of an eye. We then entered PA and traveled along the Susquehanna River. Below are foliage pictures taken in WV, PA and NY. You be the judge as to which state had the prettiest. My take is that they all are about the same.

We arrived at Watkins Glen KOA around 3pm checked in and had another relaxing evening. Dawn and Carl should be arriving around noon or so tomorrow and we can then make a decision as to what we are going to do or see n the area.

October 15, 2014 Traveling from Virginia Beach to Watkins Glen, NY

We must be some lucky RV'ers cause we are leaving 1 day early. We knew that we were going to hit some rain and we did for about 3 hours but the skies cleared before we stopped for the night. Trees here in VA carry yellow, orange and very few red colored leaves but at least we got to see some of the fall foliage. We will see how the color of the trees change as we get further north. I still believe that New England has the prettiest but we will see.
We stopped at a Walmart in Winchester, Va which is about 14 miles from the WV border. We drove about 290 miles today. We're going to have a relaxing evening and head out about 9 am tomorrow morning. In between rain bands I did manage to get some pictures of the Virginia foliage.

2 more days to go........

We are leaving from Virginia Beach, VA to Watkins Glens, NY.We are meeting Pat's youngest sister Dawn and her husband Carl for 7 days and then we are attending our nieces' wedding in Manchester, NH. We have visited this area before and really enjoyed the west side of Lake Seneca. This time we are going to visit the wineries on the west side of the lake and see which side has the best wines. Hard choice but we will somehow manage.

Mike and I have been busy getting things ready and little jobs completed. We have changed all of our valances from cloth to wood and what a difference they make. We also have MCD blinds on all of our windows. What a great improvement!!!!

Seeing that we do live in our motor home full time you would think that we wouldn't have much to do. I have been busy getting out the cool weather clothes and getting them washed and dried. Took them to the laundromat. We do have a washer/dryer but sometimes you need a bigger machine and it does take less time. Freezer and cabinets have been stocked. I am ready.
