May 8th and 9th 2016 Friends arrival and Mt Rainier

Sunday, May 8, 2016  Waiting for Jim and Terry's arrival

We arrived yesterday at this wonderful little campground called Rainier View RV Park and Campground. It is not big on amenities but for us that is fine. The sites are level and have great power and water pressure. And the view of Mount Rainier is unbelievable.

It was good to see Jim and Terry.  They arrived in the early afternoon so they got settled and we sat around catching up from October.  WE decided that we are going to go to Mt. Rainier tomorrow morning.  Both party's are excited about this trip tomorrow.  We can see the mountain from our sites and she looks very majestic even with all of that snow!!!

Monday, May 9, 2016  Day at Mount Rainier National Park

We left at 9 am and the mountain was covered in fog.  We are hoping that by the time we get to as far as we can get the fog will burn off.  We stopped at some overlooks and then surprise a delightful set of waterfalls called Christine Falls.  We could only go as far as Paradise Park at 5400 ft.  There was plenty of snow on the ground and it was snowing when we went into the Visitors Center. We were able to walk down one of the closed roads for a better view of the valley and the river. It was a nice day .We met a little visitor looking for food, a marmot.  He still had his white coat of winter fur but his golden brown fur was coming in.  We thought that he was going to climb up our legs as he was that close. On the way back to the campground we stopped at a metal sculpture gallery. Everything was huge and all outside. The guy has a great talent for welding and a better imagination to make these sculptures from scrap.  We enjoyed being outside most of the day.

May 6, 2016- May 7, 2016 Arrival in the Tacoma, WA Area

Friday, May 6, 2016- Monday May 7, 2016 Arrival in the Tacoma, WA Area

We pulled into a small campground that really wasn't much to our liking but we gave it a chance.  We had 30 amp power not a big deal but our breaker kept getting tripped.  Next no sewer-they had some problems with it-we weren't really aware of this till we got there, next and the last straw was no internet and no antenna service.  Lucky for us our next campground had a vacancy so we are moving tomorrow.

HAPPY 18TH BIRTHDAY RILEY

Saturday, May 7, 2016  Fred's Birthday

This is our cockatiel's 24th birthday!  Yes that it right.  This is the longest we have had any pet of ours  for and he has been a joy.  He says a couple of words but does he love to whistle with Mike going down the road.  So he is a handsome man.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRED

May 4, 2016 Willamette Wine Country RV Park

Wednesday, May 4, 2016 Willamette Wine Country RV Park

We wanted to stop at this RV park because of seeing the Vintage RV's on TV.  They have about 20 vintage trailers.  This park is so well laid out with wide streets, wide sites, trees and flowers and full hookups.  It is located in the middle of wine country and we did stop at one winery.  It was a very nice park and worthwhile to anyone who happens to be in the area,  I wish we had our wine buddies to do some serious wine tasting.  We would have loved to have tried some more but we are going into Canada so we are VERY limited on our bottles of wine.

May 3, 2016 Trip to Thor's Well and more......

Tuesday, May 3, 2016 Trip to Thor's Well and more......

We left out this morning at 7 am in pursuit of Thor's Well.  Well we asked for directions to Thor's Well  and was sent to Devil's Churn.  This wasn't what we knew Thor's Well looked like so off we went to revisit Devil's Punch Bowl at high tide.  On the way back we stopped at Agate Beach to see if we could find a piece of Agate but no luck the rocks turned out to be just that rocks. We continued down hwy 101 and stopped at the Heceta Head Lighthouse for a quick visit.  We had to walk up to it.  We were pretty much finished with our day when we made one more stop and guess what we found--Thor's Well and Spouting Horn.  In my opinion we got the best sight of the day, last.  Waiting for The Spouting Horn was exciting.  It actually sounds off just before it spouts water through the hole in the top of its roof.  They call this an ocean geyser.  Here I thought that we had seen every kind of geyser that there is -guess not.  We hit the jackpot today.  We saw everything that we wanted to see and few more places.  This is the last time that we will be here on the coast of Oregon this trip.  We both love this coastline.

April 26 through May 2, 2016 Eugene, OR Repairs

Tuesday, April 26 through May 3, 2016 Repairs

Seeing that Oregon has no state tax we are doing some maintenance things here before we enter Canada and then Alaska.  First thing to get done was a new windshield and that took 2 days.  We found a very nice county park just down the road from the repair shop.  Armitage County Park was a very popular park as soon as one RV pulled out another one was right behind it.  Next on the list was new tires, alignment and oil change for the car.  The last thing that we are doing is putting on a new satellite.  The old one is gone.  Mike is thrilled.

After all of this we are going to revisit Devil's Punch Bowl  We saw this with Jeff and Amy last year but I wanted to see it when the surf comes up through the center and this only happens at high tide.  I will find last year's pictures when we walked through it and then show the water coming through it to the top. After this we are down to our next to last stop in the USA.  That will be around Tacoma WA.  We are meeting Jim and Terry,  our traveling partners that we met in Albuquerque at the balloon fiesta last October.  We are planning to go to Mt. Rainier together.

Happy Birthday Dawna Yates and Mark Fey-Head
