June 3, 2015 Deming NM and June 4, 2015 Tucson, AZ

June 3 -Travel day to Deming, NM
Seeing that it was going to be a hot one we started our day out at 7am.  The drive was uneventful.  We got to see Mexico from away as we breezed  through El Paso.  That city is pretty big with lots and lots of people and cars everywhere.   We made it to Deming around 12 or so.  The park now looks like a big parking lot as all of the snowbirds have gone back home.   But all of the campgrounds here are gravel or pea gravel and very little vegetation. We stayed at our first Escapees Park (Dream Catcher RV Park) and it was just what we needed for an overnight stop. We just relaxed after a quick trip to Walmart.

June 4 – Travel day to Tucson, AZ
We left Deming early and headed west on I-10 toward Tucson. About 30 miles outside of Deming we passed the Continental Divide.  For those who may not know this is where the rivers start to run into the Pacific Ocean and the others run into the Atlantic Ocean. We only had a couple of hundred miles to travel so we knew we were going to get in early. We had forgotten that Arizona does not do Daylight Savings Time, so when the rest of the country does shift Arizona goes from Mountain Time to Pacific Time so we got to Tucson an hour earlier than we thought we would.   Along I 10 we also went through an area called the Texas Canyon.  It was an area with a lot of rock formations. It was unique.
We pulled into Voyager RV Resort which is an ENCORE park that we booked through Coast to Coast for $15 a night plus a $4 resort fee. The park is very nice with pull through sites and a lot of amenities. We left and headed to the Biosphere 2. We had a groupon and wanted to check it out but first we had to head to a local pet clinic who gave us 13 ½ bag sample bags of cat food for our cats at no cost.   We have been having a hard time finding it along our trip but this clinic had some that was going to expire this fall and gave them to us instead of the being thrown away when they expire.  You have got to love that deal…free.
We drove an hour and a half to the Biosphere and it was not what we had thought and it is not handicap accessible so Amy could not participate. They had not advised us of this when Jeff got the groupon so we headed back toward Tucson. We also had a stop at Saguaro National Park. So off we went.
We did not quite make it all the way there but we did see a whole bunch of the Saguaro Cactus in the Tucson Mountain Park. We also took a side trip to check out a campground in the area. After a full morning and afternoon of driving we went back to the campground and prepared to eat and get ready for tomorrow’s trip to Yuma.

June 1, 2015 and June 2, 2015 Balmorhea State Park, Toyahvale, Texas

Monday June 1 and Tuesday June 2, 2015

Day 1 (June 1) Ended up being a travel day.  We started our day with a 3.5 mile walk and while walking we agreed that we should leave and get a heads start to our next destination Balmorhea State Park.  It was about a 5-6 hour drive.  We left about 11am and arrived just before 6.  Balmorhea is located in the desert flatlands of West Texas.  And in the center of this park is a huge pool that is fed by San Solomon Springs. The pool covers 1 3/4 acre in size, is 25 foot in depth and it has a constant temperature of 72-76 degrees. The park was gorgeous.  The camping fee for the park was $17 but then they add $7 per person per day use fee which made it $31 a night.  We thought that it was on the high side for a state park.  We were greeted by rabbits big and small and a fairly friendly road runner.  In the replicated wetlands we saw red eared slider turtle and Texas spiny soft shelled turtle.  Jeff put his feet into the pool and was getting a pedicure from some little fish. He must be special because these little fish are consider endangered.  They were either a pupfish or what they call a mosquito fish.  They don't get much bigger than this picture. We also saw a Mexican ground squirrel they look like a cross between a chipmunk and a squirrel and a ladder backed woodpecker which when taking the picture we only got his lower body.

Day 2 (June 2)Seeing that we had nothing planned for today we decided to take a 75 mile scenic loop and in order to get to this loop we had to drive an additional 30 miles to and from.  This loop started and finished at Fort Davis and went through the Davis Mountain Range.  It was a very enjoyable ride.   We were almost back to the campgrounds when we were pelted with hail.  Luckily no damage to cars or motorhomes.  What crazy weather temperature today was in the 90’s and then dropped down into the 70’s.  All in all it was a good day.  I am going to end this piece with some words of wisdom:
Steal     nothing but     Beauty (with your eyes)
Take      nothing but     Pictures
Waste   nothing but     Time

Leave    nothing but     Foorprints

May 30, 2015 and May 31, 2015 San Antonio (Part 3)

Saturday, May 30, 2015

Day 5 (May 30th) Another lazy day.  We are waiting on the rain to arrive.  Amy & I decided to go for a bike ride before the rain so off we went.  I did 3.5 miles and Amy did 6.0.  The boys were glad that the girls had each other so they didn’t have to go.  LOL.  I had also walked 3.5 miles or 7000 steps.  Well the rain came in just a little before dinner.  So Jeff and Mike cooked steaks on the grill in the rain.  We have been really lucky with the rain here.  Places around us have been flooded and have had tornadoes along with torrential rain.  Someone is watching over us.  We have a few more days to go and then we are off again.

Day 6(May 31st)Happy Birthday to my  Mom who turned 88 today.  Happy Birthday also to our friend Greg.  Boy has this month gone by fast.  We are now waiting to see our niece Jennifer and her whole family.  They finally arrived.  Her husband Dave is just as sweet as he can be.   Matthew is graduating with high honors from high school this Wednesday, Rachel is 15 and has grown so tall and beautiful and Madelynn who is 11 is funny and never stops talking.  I have a new nickname that the kids gave me “Crazy picture lady”.  We took the kids to Brackenridge Park for the evening while Dave and Jen went to see a band that Dave has followed for many years.  Amy and I wanted to visit the Japanese Tea Garden that was advertized.  It was very nice but not what either of us pictured.  It was very picturesque and had a beautiful stone pagoda. We treated the kids to ice cream and then home to wait for parents to get back.  Everyone left about 1030pm.  It was sad to see them go but we know that we will see them at Christmas.
