July 25, 2015-Last Day at Grizzly RV Park and with Jeff and Amy

Saturday, July 25, 2015-Last Day at Grizzly RV Park and with Jeff and Amy

Well today is the last day that we will all be together.  We started out eating breakfast together.  Then Mike and I wanted to go to the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center that was just a block away.  Amy & Jeff stayed at the camp and did some of their errands before their departure tomorrow.

The Discovery Center was very informative and the animals were very well cared for.  It was small and we were back in about 1 ½ hours and then we came home and did our errands and then we all went out for dinner.

After dinner we played our last game and the boys finished off with beating us by 11 games.  We then went to see the last sunset and to share some Port that we had saved for our last night together.

Amy and Jeff-we had a blast and this is one adventure we will never forget- Safe travels and we are going to REALLY miss you guys.

July 23, 2015 Day at the camp-Rained all day and July 24, 2015- Another day trip into Yellowstone

Thursday, July 23, 2015 Day at the camp-Rained all day

Today was a do whatever needs to be done at the camp day.  We were able to sleep till we couldn’t stay in bed anymore.  I caught up on laundry, Mike flushed the outside of our radiator, we caught up on some much needed emails and made some reservations for the next leg of our trip.

It was afternoon before we caught up with Jeff and Amy and we decided that we were going to have a game marathon.  We played 8 games the girls won 4 and the boys when 4 but the sad news is that the girls are behind by 7 games.  We unfortunately have not had the lead at all. We left fairly early as we were getting up before dawn to make one more attempt at seeing some different wildlife tomorrow morning.

Friday, July 24, 2015- Another day trip into Yellowstone

We left at 430 am because to get where we needed to go was 1.5 hours away.  The roads were pretty foggy on and off all the way to our destination.  Our first destination was Lamar Valley.  Here we found 100’s of buffalo.  We saw them in the meadows, crossing the road and coming down the hills.  Next we headed to Tower Falls, Mammoth Hot Springs where we toured the Upper and Lower Terraces and Obsidian Cliff.  On the way back we saw that traffic was stopped and there were a lot of people around, so we stopped.  It was a Golden Eagle in the water.  This is the only new thing that we have seen in all of our trips into the park.  We are a little disappointed but that is how it goes.  We have enjoyed this park immensely.   We may come back when things are slow.  We haven’t missed too much except some of the long trails but the altitude has done a number on my breathing.

We came home took a nap, had dinner and played our game.  Boys are still up 7.  Well tomorrow is our last day together.  We are not planning on doing anything but stay around the campground and go out to dinner tomorrow night.  We are really going to miss Jeff and Amy.  Everyone is leaving early Sunday morning.  We are going to Glacier National Park and Jeff and Amy are going to the Tetons.

It is official Mike has lost 20 pounds since we started this trip. I have lost 6. We are hoping it continues.

July 22, 2015 Two trips into Yellowstone-one in the am and one in the pm

Wednesday, July 22, 2015 Two trips into Yellowstone-one in the am and one in the pm

Since Jeff and Amy had already seen the west side of the park Mike and I decided to head out early in the morning to do what they had already done and hopefully see some wildlife at dawn.   We planned on meeting back at the camp with Jeff and Amy about noon as they were pulling into Grizzly RV Park just a few sites down from us.  We were then going to go into Yellowstone to do some more things and see what we could see of the wildlife at dusk..  This park is so big that a person can’t possibly see everything that it has to offer in a day.  Our main focus for the day was to see the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and anything else that interested us.  We saw Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River, Grand Canyon, had ice cream at the Lake General Store, Yellowstone Lake and Lake Hotel.
We did manage to see elk, buffalo, 2 grizzlys, a herd of buffalo, rabbit and deer .  We saw all of this during the both times that we had ventured out into the park.

Continental Divide can be crossed 3 times while you are in the park.

Yellowstone Lake is North America's largest high altitude lake.  It is 20 miles long and 14 miles wide.  The deepest part of the lake is 410 feet and the bottom temperature is 42 degrees year round.
Another tidbit Yellowstone is the world's first national park just in case you didn't know.

I know that we were on the run from 5 am to 10 pm and we were really tired but satisfied at all of the wildlife that we managed to see.  The only thing that is left on our wildlife search are black bears, moose, coyotes and wolves.  It started to rain before we got back to the campground and it was suppose to rain throughout the night and into the next day so we all get to sleep in and chill for the day.
