Thursday, June 11- Travel Day to Lopez Lake Campground, Arroyo Grande,
CA
Today was a smooth and short drive. That is after the 12
mile road out of Jamala Beach. Pat still was not comfortable with the narrow
road and the large drop offs. But once that was over we drove back down CA-1
and onto the 101 and headed north. We were passing through a lot of vineyards
and farms. The road was nice and the drive easy. We had to stop for fuel and
the prices are higher than the rest of the country but still within our budget.
Jeff paid $3.79 for gas and we paid $3.31 for diesel. I think this is the only
state where gas is higher than diesel.
We made it to the campground and the sites are 30amp, water
and sewer. Easy to back in to and we even got satellite. The lake is only 25%
full so it would be even more beautiful when the water is higher. We have
turkeys wandering the campground and deer are all over the place. They say that
they have spotted bear, bobcat and cougar here also.
We needed to stock up on food so we made a trip to the small
town of Arroyo Grande to find a grocery store. On the way in we stopped at a
roadside farm market and their fruits and veggies looked great but since they
have another load coming in tomorrow we decided to wait until then to buy. The
lady even made her own jelly and preserves.
Jeff promised that he would bring some of his homemade jelly when we return.
After dinner we all went for a walk but didn’t get far.
Right across from our campsite Jeff and Pat spotted some deer and started
taking pictures. They took pictures of the 8 or more deer for a long while then
we tried to complete our walk but when we rounded a corner of the road that
overlooked the lake we saw a large herd of deer down by the lake where the
grass was greener. Jeff went off down the hill to get closer and the rest of us
waited. While we were waiting we saw a large SKUNK walking up the hill on the
same trail that Jeff would return on. They did not meet so Jeff was lucky.
After our walk we had ice cream and brownies, played cards then called it a
night.
