June 12, 2015 Trip to Santa Barbara

Friday, June 12- Santa Barbara

Morning started out slow as we were going to have dinner at the Fishouse.  We packed a lunch and headed out.  We were 1 3/4 hrs away from Santa Barbara but we wanted to ride the coast and enjoy the scenery.  It has been a little tough as we haven’t had cell service or strong internet in the last 2 campgrounds.  This just showed us how much we rely on our electronics.  So many times I have wanted to research something and couldn’t.  So we called the restaurant to see if we needed to make reservations only to find out that the place was booked for the whole weekend!!!  So we all decided that we would do lunch instead and eat our sandwiches for dinner.  We got caught in traffic and finally made it to the restaurant after 3 hours.   The wait was worth it.  The food was delicious.  We had a calamari    appetizer that was cooked to perfection.  Amy had a shrimp stir fry, Jeff had tuna, Mike had a fried seafood platter and I had sole.  Each one of us enjoyed our dinner.  After lunch we decided to walk to Stearns Wharf which was across the street.  Nice walk.  After the walk Mike and I took off to go and find the Moreton  Bay Fig Tree.  It was less than ½ mile away.  I knew that the tree was big but what  impressed me was the roots.  Pictures do not do it justice.  The tree was planted in 1876 and is believed to be the biggest tree in the country.  It is over 80’ high, 198’wide and the trunk in 12.5’ in diameter.   We then met up with Jeff and Amy and started our trip home luckily it was clear sailing.  We made a fire and just talked about our day and the plans for the next day.  This was a good day.  Never did eat our sandwiches.
