June 7 & 8, 2015 Desert Hot Springs and Joshua Tree National Park

Sunday, June 7- Travel day to Desert Hot Springs, CA and Joshua Tree National Park.
We left at 8am and got to our destination around noon.  Catalina Spa & RV Resort is a very nice park.  It has 482 sites with full hookups.  Each site is surrounded by shrubs and trees.  Someone did a nice job with laying out all of the greenery.  After lunch we set out to Joshua Tree National Park.  We spent the afternoon driving through this natural beauty.  It is surrounded by 5 different mountains.  So you see different vegetation and landscapes.  This is the third one of these that we have gone on so far and they all hold their own beauty.  We came back in time for dinner and took a leisurely walk in the nice warm air at 85 degrees.  After our walk we all decided to go and check out the pool.  It is supplied with natural hot mineral water from the parks own well.  The well is 186’ feet deep   and the water is 120 degrees when it goes to the pools.   It was very relaxing and enjoyable.  I don’t know how therapeutic it is but it made us all feel good.

Monday, June 8- Desert Hot Springs
The morning started out early for the boys as they were going to drive 1 ½ hours away to get our new solar panels and somewhere along our trip they are going to mount them on the roof.  Hopefully the temperatures will not be in the 100’s.  The girls slept in a little later and just relaxed.  After the boys got back we all went  to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.  The tram reaches the top of Mt. San Jacinto at 8516 feet.  This is going to get us out of the heat of the day we hope.  We left out at about 1pm and the temperature at our campsite was 109 degrees.  HOT, HOT, HOT. When we got to the Tram and purchased our tickets they said that the temperature on top was 64 degrees.  We all welcomed that cool breeze.  We ended spending 5 hours walking trails, climbing rocks and taking pictures.  The views were spectacular well worth the money at $24 a person.  The only wildlife that we saw was a beautiful Steller’s Jay(no pic), a western gray squirrel and lots of lizards. We took the tram back down and the desert was now 102 degrees.

We shared dinner, spent some time in the hot spring pool and called it a night since we wanted to get a real early start tomorrow. Our goal was to leave the campground at 5am.
