Friday, June 3, 2016 Ferry ride to Haines, AK
The ferry left at 8 am.
The rain was just beginning to subside and we were hoping for the sun to
come out. This was a 45 minute
ride. The passage through the Fjord was
a smooth one. FYI a fjord is a long, narrow inlet with steep sides or cliffs, created by
glacial erosion. We were hoping to see some wildlife in the water but
nothing appeared. We did see 3
waterfalls before we reached Haines.
Haines is a very small town with about 2500 people in the summer. You can drive to it, fly in or take the ferry
from Skagway or Juneau. We walked around
town and stopped into a hammer museum. I
never knew that there were that many different kinds of hammers!!!!!! Terry and I walked down a little beach to see
what we could find. Just some different
colored rocks. Then we caught the return
ferry to Skagway. On this trip we saw
plenty of Bald Eagles in the trees and in flight. The day was beautiful while
we were in Haines but the rain returned with us to Skagway.
