Our tour stated at 845 this morning. Our guide was Anna, a Navajo Indian. We are on the Navajo Reservation so they are in charge of all tours. We had to pick up some other people from the lodge. As it turned out we picked up 2 other couples which was the perfect amount. Zak and Carolyn were from Salem, Oregon and Alan and Polly were from the Western part of England. We all had a very good time for the 8 hours we spent together.
I have split this day into 2 parts as we saw so much. This part will be of Mystery Valley where we started our tour. The second part will be of Monument Valley itself. Our guide Anna guided us through tracks in the sand including snake tracks, Navajo traditions, medicinal plants in the desert as well as the monuments that surrounded us. She also cooked us lunch.
One of the teachings she stated that if you see an owl in the daytime and within 4 days a coyote crosses your path a death in the family will occur. Another one is if a coyote walks towards the sunrise you will have good luck and bad luck if he is walking toward the sunset.
