Friday, July 10, 2015-Cape Foulweather, Lunch in Newport
and 2 Lighthouses
As we were driving to the lighthouses we noticed a red and
white house on a cliff. Of course I took
a picture. We continued and Jeff turned
into a place named Cape Foulweather.
Surprise!!!! This was the same
house. We met a nice couple that
volunteers here and they gave us a ton of information on what to see out their
windows. Everyone saw gray whales off in
the distance but they were too far out to get a picture. This made my day. We did ask the ranger that was on site where
the best place to get lunch was. She
sent us to Ocean Bleu at Gino’s. It was
a small place right on the waterfront in Newport. It had a charming décor. Service and lunch
was excellent and reasonably priced too.
We finished our lunch, walked around and then headed to the
lighthouses. The first was Yaquina Bay Lighthouse
built in 1871. This lighthouse holds the
record for being opened the shortest time of 43 months when it was replaced by
a signal. Next one was Yaquina Head
Lighthouse built in 1873 and is Oregon’s tallest lighthouse. We didn’t know that we would see the smallest, the tallest, and the shortest opened lighthouse in one stay. Our
last sight before heading home was the Depoe Bay Bridge built in 1927. Amy and I thought that this bridge was
gorgeous.
