August 24, 2015 Two hikes one in Bryce Canyon, one outside park and a trip to Red Canyon

Monday, August 24, 2015 Two hikes one in Bryce Canyon, one outside park and a trip to Red Canyon

I was up real early this morning and went outside to see the stars.  The skies were loaded with stars.  I wish that I knew what they all were.  Mike and I are going to get some help by the park on Tuesday night.

We were at our hike at 8 am and the temperature was about 50 degrees.  Nice and cool.  The name of this trail was Navajo Loop.  This trail actually went down into the canyon. They state that this was a 1.3 mile round trip but my GPS stated that we had gone 2.5 miles.  We saw Wall Street (steps going up or down between 2 walls), two bridges and Thor's hammer.  The elevation change was 550 feet and it was a moderate hike.  We did very well with the high elevation.

It was still kind of early so we thought that we would take a ride and go to Kodachrome Basin State Park just to ride through and see what it had to offer.  On the way we saw a short hike to Mossy Cave and a waterfall.  Easy hike so away we went.  It was a short mile hike and the waterfall was nice.   After the hike we continued on our ride to the State Park.

The Visitor's Center outside of the park gave us some great information about some more slot canyon hikes.  So we are going to do this on another day.  I just happened to be looking at some brochures when I saw a rock tunnel that we could drive through that was in Red Canyon and it wasn't to far to drive.  So we add another adventure to our day.  The canyon was really red and we did drive through not 1 but 2 rock tunnels.  We are going this way on our way to Zion with the motorhome and I am going to take a picture of our coach going through it.  We wanted to do it in the Redwoods but there wasn't a tree big enough.

We had a very productive day today and we will see what tomorrow will bring.

FYI- the white flower that we have been seeing on the side of the road is called a Sacred Datura- it opens at night and closes by noon and if it is ingested can be fatal.  It is a lovely flower.

Happy Birthday to my nephew-David Jr.
