Well we added 2 more states to our map. We have only 9 more to go. We are not counting Hawaii.
Our day started out early like 530 am. We planned on going to drive down the Wilson-Moose road in hope of seeing a moose and then we are going to do a hike to Hidden
Falls. It was pretty cool outside at 55
degrees. That is a good temperature when
a hike is involved.
We started the drive and we first caught sight of a bald
eagle. As we got into the wooded area we
saw some elk among the trees but couldn’t get a good photo. Our hopes were very high about seeing a moose
today. We came upon a pull off that is
known for moose. We met a couple from
New York who said that yesterday they saw a Bull Moose and a mother and her
baby here. No luck for us though so off
to our hike.
Somehow I had in my head that this was only a 2 mile hike one
way when it was a 2.6 mile. When we
finished this hike it ended up being an 8 mile hike round trip!! The trail was well maintained. It was rocky, had some stone steps and the
last part was a little rough. They had a
tree fall on a bridge so there was some construction going on so they made a rough trail
around it. We had to do some rock
climbing. We could hear the falls and
they sounded pretty big. As we finally
reached the end of the trail there the falls were tucked away in the mountains
so the name Hidden Falls fits.
We again didn’t see any Moose but what we did see was a red
fox that crossed our path, the usual chipmunks and squirrels and I came up on a
Pica. It looks like a small fat bodied squirrel
but he was camera shy so no picture. As
we were finishing the trail and going to our car I did get a picture of a Hairy Woodpecker. So it wasn’t a bad day as
far as seeing different animals or birds but we decided that we would go back to the
place that we were this morning and give it another shot. No moose again uh!!!
We discussed trying to come back the next day but give the
evening a try as tomorrow was our last day at this park. As we were almost back to Jackson and had been out of the park for 7 miles we saw cars
stopping left and right and in the middle of the road. It was a big Bull Moose in front of someone's house!!!!! Can you believe that Mike tried
to take some pictures without getting out but I made him turn around and I got
out of the car to get some pictures. The moose was too interested in eating and
didn’t pay any attention to the crowd that was gathering. I can’t believe that we finally saw our moose
and it was 1 o’clock in the afternoon and he wasn’t near any of the places that
they have spotted them. Mike is very
happy. His search is over.
